Baba Yaga was wise and truthful even though a bit terrifying (much like wisdom itself).

Visitors on entering her hut were asked whether they came of their own free will, or whether they were sent. Survival depended on choosing the right option. Those who survived were rewarded with magical gifts or found the answers they were looking for.

So, maybe Baba Yaga was wisdom personified.

When reading stories about her as a child, for me it was all about the hut standing on a chicken leg.

Yes! The chicken leg! I love to hear about her smearing grease on her lips, too-just made the whole picture more terrifying. I've just posted about Vasilisa today and strange how ArtnLight let me here thru a series of fortunate turns on the forested trail.
